It is shared that Marina Bay Sands (MBS) is driven to safeguard the environment and incorporate “sustainability into their core business strategy” (Marina Bay Sands, n.d.). With the aim for constant improvement, the ‘Sands ECO360° Sustainability’ is used to manage sustainability in MBS. During the construction phase, MBS paid particular focus to utilise sustainable materials. To prevent resources wastage, MBS utilises an Intelligent Building Management System (IBMS) to help with automatic control of equipment. Having implemented various water saving features, the Public Utilities Board has recognised MBS as a ‘water efficient building’. In a bid to push for environmentally friendly practises in the company and to raise sustainability awareness, an education programme was launched in 2012.

This article also shares the various implementations by MBS in detail which helps in the conservation of resources. One of the implementations involves a sensor which switches off the air-conditioning in the room should the balcony doors be left open for a certain period, which reduces energy wastage.  While this article did not include the total amount of energy used per year, it has however included the amount of energy saved per year due to the implementations. This data can be used to support our research project, as energy consumption in hotels is one of the focus of our project.
